High School at Elsen
The High School phase at Elsen Academy is designed for capable, motivated learners who are full of potential but who may need additional academic structure, emotional support, or specialised assistance to succeed. As a specific-needs school, we offer a calm, inclusive environment where learners are understood as individuals rather than measured against a system that does not always suit them. We support learners who experience learning barriers, anxiety, gaps in foundational skills, or who struggle in large, high-pressure settings, and we believe these challenges do not define ability or intelligence — they simply indicate the need for the right kind of support to allow each learner to thrive.
What makes our school different
Our Grades 8–12 learners are taught by qualified subject teachers and supported by trained remedial educators who work alongside them to ensure that no learner falls behind unnoticed.
This means learners receive:
- Individualised academic support
- Assistance with reading, writing, comprehension, and organisation
- Study skills, exam preparation, and memory strategies
- Support with executive functioning (planning, time management, task completion)
- Emotional and motivational support within the school day
Our remedial team works closely with teachers to adapt content, provide scaffolding, and intervene early when difficulties arise.
Striving for success in High School
The Senior and FET Phases can be overwhelming for many learners. Our programme is designed to provide:
- Smaller class sizes
- Predictable routines and clear expectations
- Continuous monitoring of progress
- Regular feedback and support
- A calm, respectful learning environment
This allows learners to develop:
- Confidence
- Independence
- Academic resilience
- A belief in their own abilities

High School Head of Department
I am a passionate educator with many years of experience supporting learners across the Senior and FET phases. As Head of Department, my approach is grounded in the belief that every learner can succeed when they are understood and taught in a way that meets their individual needs. My work with learners who experience learning barriers, anxiety, low confidence, or gaps in their academic foundations has shaped a teaching style that balances structure, clarity, compassion, and high expectations.
I believe effective education goes beyond content delivery and is built on strong relationships, safe learning environments, and the development of independence and resilience. As HOD, I work closely with educators, learners, and parents to ensure our practices are inclusive, responsive, and aligned with best educational standards. Through collaboration and consistent support, my goal is to ensure every learner feels seen, valued, and capable of success at school and beyond.
“Congratulations to our kids. So so proud of them and thank you so much to the teachers for their dedication in making sure that our kids do great in the exams”
