The Elsen Story

The Elsen 'No Limits to Learning' Philosophy

Elsen Academy and Non-Profit Independent School in Port Elizabeth was started by three ladies, two of whom are still Directors at the Academy today. They saw a need for a school that could cater to children who struggled to thrive in the larger school environments. After much preparation, planning, and praying, Elsen Academy opened its doors to accept 13 pupils for the very first time in January 2006 from the Sunday school classrooms at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Walmer. The school has since moved into the vibrant artistic/cultural hub of Central and now occupy the old Holy Rosary Convent school building, which had been vacant for some time, and was one of the Founders’ school many years ago when she was a pupil there, so it definitely feels like home.  The common thread that ties the different departments to each other being that of inclusion and that on our campus, there are simply NO LIMITS TO LEARNING.

Quotes from some of our parents:

At Elsen we appreciate your child’s difference and abilities and shape and mould them into something truly beautiful – making your child feel perfect in every way.

“Elsen, you are amazing. The love and care you show for your student’s is what drives them. Bryce loves going to school.”

Liz Bain

“I honestly cannot believe the difference that a couple of weeks can make, or that a school can make such a difference but it has for us and we are blown away by the change we are already seeing in Tayden. He is sleeping better, his confidence is slowly building and he is looking less stressed – and is even smiling again!”
